The Greater New York Orchid Show is April 18-22nd at Rockefeller Center. If you ask me, this is a better show for photographers than the one at the Garden. It’s a lot easier to get close to the plants plus they have Ikebana cut flowers too. And, if we actually get some sun, the lighting is pretty good since it’s under the tent over the ice skating rink. Tripods are not allowd! For more info http://www.gnyos.org/NYIOS/nyios.htm.

Sunday, April 29, 10am-6pm Guide: Don Riepe Transport: Private coach Food: Bring your lunch.
Bald eagles, golden eagles, peregrine falcons, and much more – all up close and personal – await visitors to Raptor Trust, one of the region’s most important bird rehabilitation centers. Our visit will include a short class on owls, featuring eight live species, taught by a professional educator. We might also meet with Dr. Len Soucy, owner and legendary rehabilitator, for a talk about the Raptor Trust’s history and mission. After lunch, we travel on to the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. Great Swamp’s 7,600 acres of varied habitat draw a wide range of migrants and nesting birds, including ring-necked duck, american kestrel, scarlet tanager, rose-breasted grosbeak, chipping sparrow, rusty blackbird, and american goldfinch. The Swamp also is home to river otter, mink, beaver, red fox, coyote, opossum, and cottontail rabbits. We’ll make the round trip in style, in a comfortable coach bus where you’ll have time to relax and chat with like-minded people. More info at http://www.nycaudubon.org/home/SBTrip.shtml
